HONG KONG, China | Dec 21, 2006 | SciGen Limited (ASX: SIE) announces marketing approval of its Recombinant human Insulin SciLIn™ in Hong Kong. The product will be promoted by SciGen Sales & Marketing group in Hong Kong. SciGen expects to launch the product in the first quarter of 2007.
About SciLin: SciLin is a second generation recombinant human insulin expressed in E. coli. SciLin™ contains insulin produced by recombinant DNA technology using a special non-disease producing strain of E. coli cell bacteria. The insulin molecule in SciLin™ is identical to natural human insulin in composition and in three-dimensional conformation. SciLin™ is used for type I and type II diabetes.
The need for Generic Insulin continues to grow. Currently, the total world market for insulin is estimated to be US$3.6 billion per annum and that for all diabetes therapeutics is forecast to grow by 20% per anum over the medium term. SciGen’s immediate target regions include India, China and Pakistan, which rank among the five largest populations of diabetes in the world.
About SciGen: SciGen Ltd is a biopharmaceutical company involved in commercializing later stage research. It co-develops and markets biopharmaceutical products for human healthcare. SciGen’s competitive advantage is in identifying research with commercial potential at an early stage to which it adds its expertise in clinical development, gaining regulatory approval and bringing products to market.
