SciGen Announces Marketing Approval of Hepaptitis Vaccine in India Print E-mail

Announces the marketing approval of its third generation hepatitis B vaccine, Sci-B-Vacin India. Commercialization of the vaccine will commence as soon as the manufacturing facility in Rehovot, Israel is commissioned. Commissioning is expected in the second quarter of 2007.

SYDNEY, Australia | Nov 08, 2006 | SciGen Limited (ASX: SIE) announces the marketing approval of its third generation hepatitis B vaccine, Sci-B-Vacin India. Commercialization of the vaccine will commence as soon as the manufacturing facility in Rehovot, Israel is commissioned. Commissioning is expected in the second quarter of 2007.

India forms the second largest pool of Hepatitis B carriers in the world. It is estimated that at least 45 Million people in India were infected with Hepatitis B in 2005, 10% develop chronic infection and 89000 people were estimated to have died of Hepatitis. Revenues in 2005 were estimated to be over US$40 Million dollars with a compounded growth rate of 6% (1).S ciGen hepatitis B vaccine will be distributed by Shreya Life Sciences, one of the top 20 pharmaceutical companies in India.

About Sci-B-Vac:
Sci-B-Vacis a third generation recombinant vaccine produced in mammalian cells culture (CHO) that contains all three regions (epitope) of the hepatitis B virus surface antigen (proteins) and elicit a faster immune response than other hepatitis B vaccine presently available. Sci-B-Vac has been proven safe and effective after testing in more than 5000 men, women, children and newborn in the Asia Pacific Region, Europe and Israel.
