Yakult Honsha, Terumo to Co-develop Liposomal Formulation of Irinotecan |

TOKIO, Japan | May 19, 2006 | Yakult Honsha announced on May 18 that it will develop a liposomal formulation of irinotecan, a kind of anticancer agent, with Terumo. A development code for the agent is IHL-305.
Encapsulating irinotecan into a liposome developed by Terumo, the new agent will be able to sustain its effectiveness and improve its concentration in cancer tissues while reducing side effects.
As an initial step, the two companies will begin a phase 1 clinical trial in the US by the end of May.
